The latest trailer for the forthcoming toy-to-life video game, Lego Dimensions, is out, and as I've yet to post about said game, I thought I'd play catch up and look at all the trailers so far.
If you've somehow missed news of the game, Lego Dimensions will bring together a host of Lego themes, both original Lego creations and numerous licensed properties (some making their Lego debut), in a single video game, allowing characters and vehicles from different Lego worlds to interact.
The core of the game is the toy pad, which allows different characters and vehicles into the game. The starter pack (available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, X-Box 360, X-Box One, and WiiU) includes the toy pad, plus Batman (DC Comics), Gandalf (Lord of the Rings), and Wyldstyle (The Lego Movie), as well as the batmobile.
Additional characters, vehicles, gadgets, and game content will then be available as separate expansions, in the form of level packs, which include new levels in the game, plus a new character and vehicle/gadget. Other expansions will just add extra characters and vehicles/gadgets; either team packs, which contain two characters and two vehicles/gadgets, or fun packs, which add one extra character and vehicle/gadget.
To kick off promotion of the game Lego released a couple of rather cinematic trailers, focusing on the drama and scope of the licenses involved (continue after the jump to watch them all).

The Lego Movie 4D at Legoland, and other sequel updates
Merlin Entertainments, who operate the Legoland parks and Discovery Centers, have announced they will releasing a new 4D sequel to The Lego Movie, exclusively at their Legoland attractions around the world. The new film promises the return of characters from The Lego Movie, as described in the press release:
More details from this film and others, after the jump:
Using elements such as wind, water, smoke and special lighting effects, the larger-than-life experience brings the film’s main characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle, back together with their friends for another awesome adventure. There is also news from the regular The Lego Movie sequels in the works. The Lego Movie Sequel does indeed appear to be the title of the film that will be the direct, follow-up, to The Lego Movie, and The Hollywood Reporter have now revealed it will be directed by Rob Schrab - This seems like a good bet, with Schrab having a strong comedy background, directing episodes of Community, The Mindy Project, and The Sarah Silverman Program, among many other credits. Writers and Directors of the first movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are returning as writers and producers, working on a story by co-created with Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan, and working alongside returning producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee.

The Lego Movie 2 to feature more female characters
Good news for equality in the Lego-verse, The Lego Movie 2 is set to feature more female characters! In a recent interview with the BBC, the writers and directors of The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller commented on their efforts to have a bit more gender balance in the next chapter, with Miller noting:
I don't want to give spoilers but there will be more female characters and more female stuff.Lord put it this way:
It's important to us that the movie plays broadly and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men.Lord also expressed a feeling the film culture is finally moving in the direction of better gender representation:
You can feel that the whole movie culture is now starting to wake up to the fact that half the audience are women. Frozen is reflective of that - and I think we are all going to find a great flourishing of women film makers and subject matter in the future.Whatever the inspiration, sounds like a good move to me! I wonder if the Ninjago and Batman Lego movies that are set for release before The Lego Movie 2 will also manage to incorporate more female characters.

How The Lego Movie should have ended
How It Should Have Ended and Brotherhood Workshop have teamed up to make several alternative endings for The Lego Movie. The latest looks at the love triangle between Batman, Wyldstyle, and Emmet, aka Starlord!

Theme Guide: The Lego Movie (2015)
I'm glad to see that 2015 will continue to deliver sets based on The Lego Movie, as the film still has lots of potential for sets - They could mine it for eternity considering how many Lego models there were within it! The three sets coming in the winter wave are all quite small scale, ideal ways to collect the main characters if the larger sets in the second wave of 2014 sets are a little too pricey for you.
Continue below for a look at each set. (Images first revealed by Youtuber just2good):

70818 Double Decker Couch
- One of the most iconic designs in The Lego Movie - Ok, that might be overstating it, but the double-decker couch is certainly memorable. I'd have loved an all-clear version from the Emmet mind-meld scene, but any version is pleasing. This has already appeared in the much larger 70810 Metal Beard's Sea Cow, so this is the more accessible version, this time coupled with Emmet's car and a jumble of characters from the film, including ghost Vitruvius!

2015 Lego set rumours
Page created 15th August 2014. Last updated 31st August 2014.
Rumours are starting to surface of sets to come in 2015 and late 2014. I shall be updating this article as more news comes.
First up, new themes! Neoape has reported lists for several completely new lines for 2015:
Jurassic World
Well this one was a surprise, and one I was pretty sceptical about when rumours first started to surface - You see just last year it was announced Hasbro had secured the Jurassic Park construction toy license, ready to produce sets for the then untitled fourth Jurassic Park film, which we now know will be Jurassic World. Hasbro's Lego knock-off, Kre-O, has yet to deliver any legacy Jurassic Park sets, and then we hear Lego has somehow secured the license - Very unusual! No set names have been released yet, but Neoape suggest there will be five different Jurassic World sets.
Elves
Another surprise is Elves, which going by the set names seem likely to be aimed at girls, and one might imagine will use the Friends-style minidolls. Neoape list six sets in this new theme:
- 41071 Aira’s Creative Workshop
- 41072 Naida’s Spa Secret
- 41073 Naida’s Adventure Ship
- 41074 Azari & The Magic Bakery
- 41075 Treetop Hideaway
- 41076 Farran & The Crystal Hollow
This new car-based theme might be new TV tie-in too, Brick Fantatics seem to think this could be a Top Gear theme. Seven sets are coming, whatever it's called:
- 75899 LaFerrari
- 75908 458 Italia GT2
- 75909 McLaren P1
- 75910 Porsche 918 Spyder
- 75911 McLaren Mercedes Pitstop
- 75912 Porsche 911 GT Finish
- 75913 F14 & Scuderia Ferrari

More Lego movies coming
Good news The Lego Movie fans (aka, everyone), the Lego movie franchise is on the rise! As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers have picked out release dates for two more Lego films, which they believe, following two previously announced dates for the Lego franchise, could be sequels to The Lego Movie, and the forthcoming Ninjago movie. There are four movies on the way, one every year until 2019. If THR's speculation is right, the line-up of Lego films looks like this:
- 23rd September 2016 - Ninjago
- 26th May 2017 - The Lego Movie 2
- 25th May 2018 - Ninjago 2
- 24th May 2019 - The Lego Movie 3

New sets revealed at Comic Con
Several new sets coming out later this year and in 2015 will be revealed by Lego at Comic Con this week. They have also previewed a few of these online, so here's a round up of the new sets:
Due out later this year, alongside the release of The Battle of the Five Armies, the final film in The Hobbit trilogy, will be The Lonely Mountain. The set centers on Smaug and his occupation of the dwarf mines. As well the dragon the 866-piece set includes Bilbo Baggins, Balin, Dwalin, Ori, and Gloin (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Due next year will be the Wookiee Gunship from Star Wars Rebels. It comes with a trio of Wookies, and the Jedi Kanan Jarrus. (vis MTV).
Also due early next year is 76025 Green Lantern vs Sinestro, the latest addition to the DC Super Heroes range. This set comes with, as the name implies, the Green Lantern, Sinestro, plus a cool white-space-suited Batman. The ship here has lots of transparent green parts, and that little clip thing at the bottom of the image apparently spring launches Batman into flight (via Kotaku).
Announced a few days ago, there's the huge UCS Tumbler set, due out in September. You can see lots of images, and a designer video, in my previous report.
There's also the promise of a new 2015 The Lego Movie set being revealed. Yahoo Movies have posted a small image showing Batman, Angrykitty with a Micro Manager and robot skeleton.Presumably these items will all accompany some other creation though, so I expect here's more news to come on this set. UPDATE: FBTB have confirmed this is in fact the full extent of the set, which is called 70817 Batman and Super Angry Kitty Attack.
The Lego press release about Comic Con also mentioned the fourth series of Mixels sets will be revealed too.I'll update as further news comes. UPDATE: And indeed they were, they showed real models at the Comic Con (The Brick Fan has some photos), while the Lego Facebook page posted these renderings. It seems the tribes are something like, night, fire (again), and Buzz Lightyear:

Lego's Comic Con display pieces
As well as sets you can buy, Lego are also showing of lots of different display pieces at the San Diego Comic Con this week.
First up, and perhaps the most impressive build, is Smaug, the dragon from The Hobbit, which took more than eighty-three-thousand bricks to complete, and comes complete with a little Bilbo Baggins (via When Nerds Attack):
Less of a giant, but coming at life-size, is Chopper, the new droid from the Star Wars animated series, Rebels (via MTV):
Continue after the jump for many more builds, including more Star Wars, Super Heroes, Ninja Turtles, and Ghostbusters:

Lego's Comic Con exclusive sets
Lego have announced several different sets which are available exclusively at the San Diego Comic Con this week. There will also be a number of minifigures that will on offer in a raffles throughout the event, or for those not attending, via a twitter raffle (follow @LEGO_Group for that).
There will be three sets on offer, all are limited to just a thousand copies each. The most eye-catching (even for someone who isn't especially excited by Batman or cars), is the classic TV batmobile, which comes with Batman and Robin. It must be agonising for Batman fans that this fun little car will be such a rarity. (Images via FBTB)
To celebrate the launch of Star Wars Rebels there will be a mini-version of the hero-ship, the Ghost. Like previous exclusives, and the Micro-fighter range, the ship will house an out-of scale minifigure too, in this case the new short astromech droid, Chopper. (Image via StarWars.com)
Finally, as I've previously reported separately, there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy set. Rocket Raccoon’s Warbird. (Image via Wall Street Journal)
On top of the sets, four minifigures, to be available via raffle, have also been announced. They are:

Review: The Lego Movie
From day one hearing of The Lego Movie I was pretty excited; I love Lego, I love animated films, and perhaps most excitingly, the movie has been created by the people behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, one of the most visually rich, creative, and funny, animated films ever made. In those capable hands I felt sure The Lego Movie would be pretty great. Then trailers started to appear, I felt even more sure about it, seeing the attention to detail and fidelity of the on-screen Lego world only made me more excited. So when I came to actually see the film my expectations were pretty high, and yet it still managed to surpass them! To shoehorn in the film's theme-song, everything in The Lego Movie is AWESOME!
The film shares the bright and wacky feel of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It also vaguely reminded me of Scott Pilgrim vs The World, not just for the clueless lead, and pink haired love interest, but the constantly changing settings and unreality of the universe. There are also some very pleasing flashes of Wes Anderson when you are pulled right out of the reality of the film to wide-shots of locations created at completely different scales, and with some silly "unrealistic" animations and sounds. The film is not afraid to poke fun at both the medium of Lego and its own choices of animation style.
The world of The Lego Movie is staggering in its Legoness. Everything is Lego; cars, buildings, people of course, but then the sky, and sea, huge landscapes and tiny details. Even the explosions have been modelled as if they were meticulously crafted stop motion animations using real Lego pieces. While most of the film is CGI it's amazing to think that, with sufficient quantities of Lego and time, you probably could, with the exception of the facial animations, make it all as real stop motion animation. The film makers have made the decision to animate the film within the rules of Lego; if you couldn't achieve a design or movement with real Lego than it's not in the film, and that gives it a unique look and charm that sets it aside both from other animated movies, and from most of Lego's previous shorter CGI promo animations.
We are also treated to whirl-wind tour of Lego worlds. If you're not that familiar with Lego then you'll just enjoy the random assortment of genre locations, but if you know your Lego stuff you're treated to a plethora of cameos and call backs. These worlds are also inhabited by a huge variety of characters that reflect many aspects of Lego: From the bright brick-built Unikitty in her equally bright and wacky Cloud Cuckoo Land, to the brilliantly retro spaceman Benny and his obsession with the Lego space-ship style of the past, and the most prominent (and scene stealing) licensed character in the film, Batman, who gloriously pokes fun at his own emo approach to life.
Aside from being a beautiful homage to everything Lego the film is unrelentingly hilarious. Much of this comes from the animation style and limitations of the Lego world. My favourite jokes came from the film making, in particulr the manipulation of time; when the film skips forward with intertitles to denote the time passing. There's also the strength of the identity of each of the major characters, all offering different takes on identity, conformity (or lack there of), and how to exist in the Lego world. Their great variety, each offers something unique and positive to the Lego world, even the bad guy, all feeding into the film's message on creativity.
If you're a fan of Lego you should love this film, it revels in its subject matter. It should also appeal to anyone interested in film making, particularly animation, as it's very cleverly and wittily made. And finally it's also one of the funniest films I can remember seeing, from what it gets from both the previous points, and so much more. I couldn't recommend The Lego Movie enough, it really is fantastic. I hope the franchise of Lego films to come after this can maintain the very high bar it has set.

More The Lego Movie sets revealed
Hot on the heels of the new The Lego Movie trailer, Lego are starting to reveal more of sets tied into the film. Including series 12 of the Collectable Minifigures, which are all characters from the film:
There look like a great set of characters; I'm glad to see being tied to The Lego Movie hasn't reduced the range of figures on offer this series. Brick Fanatics released the image, and as well as details of who all these are:
Of course all these characters also give us some new insights into the film. We've got several western characters here (I love Wyldstyle's dress!), and several robots (two indeed fit into both groups), as well as plenty of city people and some more fanciful and historical characters.
Talking of fanciful, Yahoo Movies have revealed another of the sets based on the film: The gloriously colourful and pretty absurd 70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace, which includes the brick-built Uni-Kitty (who it appears has a new tail element). There's also another robot in there, alongside Emmet, Wyldstyle, a snail, and a flower catapult!
UPDATE: Hollywood Reporter have revealed another set, 70809 Lord Business' Evil Lair, which comes with the extra tall Lord Business (with his extra long cape). Also included are Emmet and Vitruvius, and some new characters; Ma Cop, Pa Cop, wrestler/master builder El Macho Wrestler, and Biznis Kitty, a different (corrupted?) version of Unikitty. The set appears to include a TV set for Where-Are-My-Pants Guy, a corporate boardroom, and a massive tube of glue (powered by a massive nine-volt battery), surely used by Lord Business in his nefarious plans. Note Ma Cop and Pa Cop seem to have been glued, with an excellent use of the Toy Story army men bases in clear as a blob of glue!
There are seventeen sets planned based on the film, continue after the jump for a reminder of the other sets so far rumoured in the range:

The Lego Movie second trailer, and more!
FThe second trailer has been released for The Lego Movie, and it's full of awesome:
I love everything about this! How EVERYTHING is made of Lego. How there are so many nods back to older Lego sets, and clever building techniques. How all the animation is done as if it were a real Lego stop motion. How Batman is so into himself and ever so slightly inept!
Continue after the jump for screencaps to scrutinise all the cool details. Plus a look at the teaser trailers that preceeded the release of this one!

First details of The Lego Movie sets, video game, books, and other merchandise
Coming Soon has announced details of Lego's merchandising plans surrounding the release of The Lego Movie next year. Those plans of course include the release of a range of Lego sets based on the film. Seventeen sets are planned, which will take full advantage of the diverse Lego universe featured in the film, including City, Western, and Space settings. One image has been released, showing a set featuring the exotic motor bike seen in the trailer, apparently being chased by what looks like robotic police:
In addition to the sets one series of the Collectable Miifigures will be turned over to the film. The usual assortment of sixteen characters will include new and "new-again" minifigures, presumably meaning some of the vintage Lego designs seen in the film will be getting new life as minifigure releases.
As well as sets there will be a new Lego video game based on the film. Due to be released for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC, 3DS and PS Vita, the game will feature fifteen levels and ninety characters, allowing us to use building skills to play through the events of the movie. Comicbook.com posted this teaser poster for the game, featuring the same moment in the story as the above Lego set:
Meanwhile Video Gamer posted screencaps, showing events in the City and Western settings. Continue after the jump to see those, and for details of other merchandise:

The Lego Movie
Warner Brother have released the trailer and teaser poster for The Lego Movie, which is due out next February. The film comes from writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who previously brought us the charming, hilarious, and beautiful, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (one of my very favourite films).
As the trailer demonstrates, the movie pulls in Lego characters and designs from the entire range of licenses and original themes, new and old - It's just as if the world of The Lego Movie takes place in your own eclectic Lego collection. There are some nice new character, location, and vehicle designs too, which surely will be translated into real world sets as well.
Voice talents include Chirs Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman. Here's the official synopsis:
UPDATE: An international version of the trailer has also been released, it's a bit shorted but has a few extra scenes (have added more screencaps from this below as well):
Here are some screencaps from the trailer (after the jump), which hopefully gives us some clues to a few future Collectible Minifigures (there is definitely a panda costume character among the crowds, and several new historical characters), or sets based on the film - The new characters for the film have some especially nice character designs, plus there seems to be a Western sequence:

The 3D computer animated adventure tells the story of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
